so, you've seen Cee-Lo perform his song "Fµ¢k◄You" / "Forget You" (or "Fox News" on Colbert) on tv, with a 'live' band of women/girls...
well, BRITTANY BROOKS was the one bandmember who actually played the drums while the guitar, bass and keyboard ladies played to a backing track (at least on Colbert they did!)... and she's a pretty great drummer! she even has a cymbal sponsor.
i must say, ROGER CRAIG is a total badass. i absolutely love his demeanour, his strategy, his signaling technique, his brain and his personality! and i'm only two of four days into our TiVO list of Roger Craig's astonishing winning run.
i found this rusty venture interview (oops i meant aka JAMES URBANIAK in talk show form), on his blog VOUCHER ANKLES. the show begins with neil schweiber of Freaks and Geeks. the real fun begins around 27:40.
turns out he lived kinda near where AlSto lived in new jersey ("Sayreville?!! i know where that is. that's the way we took to my uncle's when we didn't take the parkway."). hmm, i wonder if his real name is spelt 'Urbaniac'?
the BRIAN LYNCH blog says '30Rock is a Ripoff of the Muppet Show'. need proof?
Pete is Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Kenneth is Scooter, Jack is Sam the Eagle, and so much more!!!!
btw just for timeline purposes: this past weekend was mellow for me (just wedding on Sat.), and crazy for the mister (Tesla rally, Lakers game). JaHe and DeRa were both in the house all weekend and we went to King's X Saturday night with PhiLe and DaLo.
Leave it to the Guardian to give us a rundown of the new administration, explained in terms i can understand: by drawing parallels with the characters from Aaron Sorkin's series The West Wing!
...i got out of the elevator and bam almost ran into a longtime L.A. news reporter, DAVE LOPEZ. i thought, "whoa" and then he said "hi" and smiled. weird. then i walked down the hall and i saw a Fox 11 tv camera and a couple of people whose names i don't remember but who i've seen on tv even though i really don't watch local news...
they were all there to cover the sentencing of a woman that was taking place in ourcourtroom! with our judge, and our bailiff, and our court reporter! crazy.
if you know me, you know that i really, really love television. i refer to my TiVO as an animate object. i want to teach a graduate course on "television and its impact on ____" with my friend FraKa, complete with weekly podcast. i rewind an episode after i've watched it, just to see who the writer(s) was (were), and the directors, too (some of the time). tv is something i hold dear to my heart and i spend as much time watching tv as most people do watching films.
in any case, i noticed in the past few weeks that the quality of writing in television programmes has become, i don't know, better...or at the very least, different.
it's as if all the writers knew how imminent the strike was, and so they decided to go balls out, so to speak. it's as if the writers wanted us to realise that there is something to be said for shows that do not rely on the reality factour. it's as if the writers knew they didn't know when their stuff would get made next, so they decided to put their best foot forward and give us some tv that would make us, the true tv fanatic, miss their writing.
i've been rationing out my new television episode broadcasts (read: i've been hoarding on my TiVO) over the past month or so. i like how the networks have tried to make their new episodes/shows last over the duration of the season. but, the tap is running dry.
please, directors, actors, studios: negotiate with the writers! admit it, they've got what you need. television needs writers.
and god*@&^ it, KCRW fundraiser started today. S%^# !!!
